Field beans
Vicia faba
Field beans, or faba beans, fill the acreage left on our Latvian fields once the vegetables and potatoes are in the ground. A protein crop that is good for the soil and earns its place in the rotation.

A crop that fills the gaps
Once every vegetable and potato field is planted, some ground stays open. We would rather grow something useful on it than leave it bare. Field beans are a strong protein crop, good for the soil and a sensible fit for the rotation.
What our field beans are used for
Protein
Dried faba beans go into protein production, with the protein extracted for use in food.
Animal feed
Part of the crop goes to feed, a reliable outlet for whatever is not used for protein.
Healthy soil
Beans leave the ground in better condition for the crops that follow.
